Why did i decide to create Lets Navigate NYC?

My inaugural visit to New York City transpired in 1999. Armed with a guidebook and an enthusiastic sense of anticipation, I commenced my initial day of sightseeing with a list of attractions and activities in mind. However, after nine hours of exploration, I found myself seated in one of the numerous Irish bars in Midtown, grappling with a sense of disappointment, realising that navigating the city was more challenging than I had anticipated.

Engaging in conversation with the bartender, I shared my navigational challenges, prompting a light hearted response. With a pen and paper in hand, he inquired about my preferences, and upon receiving my list of three attractions, he humorously suggested planning an afternoon itinerary. To my surprise, he meticulously charted out the route on sheets of paper torn from a notebook.

The following day, I successfully visited numerous attractions, experienced my first visit to Katz's Deli, and enjoyed some libations at McSorley's Old Ale House.

Over the years, through numerous visits, I refined my navigational skills and extended assistance to friends and family in planning their New York City excursions. A pivotal moment occurred when a family member suggested, "Why not open these guides to the broader public and assist others as you've done for us?" This marked the inception of my journey and the establishment of "Let's Navigate NYC!"

 

My Personal Journey

In the late 1990's, I embarked on my very first journey to NYC from the U.K, and from the moment I set foot in the city, I was captivated, The experience surpassed my wildest expectations, sparking a love affair that has endured for over two decades. Year after year, I returned, delving deeper into the intricacies of 'The City' and its four vibrant boroughs—Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn. With each visit, I honed the art of extracting the utmost from my NYC adventures, whether through sightseeing, exploring attractions, savouring diverse cuisines, or mastering the art of navigating this dynamic metropolis.

This city had a pull like no other and keeps on drawing me back year upon year

 

Over 2 Decades Later

I'm still in love with this vibrant city and visit multiple times a year, my experience of navigating this vast metropolis has been built over many years and it's time for me to help others get the most from their trip to the big apple.

Now after more than 25 years of exploration, my goal is to distil this wealth of knowledge that took me nearly a quarter of a century to gain, and to give this to you in easy accessible guides, offering you a seamless way to uncover the raw beauty of New York City with ease and simplicity. Allowing you to get the upmost from your NYC adventures.
